Romans 12:1-2
Chapters 1-11
- Chapters 1-3: We are under God’s wrath and are all condemned under sin (1:18). We can be made righteous through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Chapter 4: We are justified freely by faith
- Chapter 5: We have access to God and the hope of Heaven. God will shape us through the trials we face.
- Chapters 6-8: The finished work of Jesus has allowed us to be freed from the law and sin and adopted into God’s family. As believers, the Holy Spirit lives in us.
- Chapters 9-11: Paul presented the promises that God made to the Jewish nation.
We have a choice as to how we will live for God

Sermon Talks
- Read Romans 12:1-2
- What are examples of selfish things Christians grab onto? Why can’t they seem to let them go?
- Think about the greyhound race illustration. Did you find it interesting that not one dog finished the race? Why do you think that was?
- Outside of Jesus, what are things that people put their hope in? Why do they do that?
- How does a believer live as a “living sacrifice,” and how have you applied this principle in your life?
- Explain each of the three wills of God (perfect, prescriptive, permissive). How do they correspond with one another?
- Go back and review the three ways to discern the will of God. Is there an example of a time where, based on these three ways, you were able to discern His will?
- Are you currently in a season where you are trying to discern His will? Explain.
- Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in a time of prayer.
Pray about it: Meditate on God’s Word (Romans 12:1-2) and this week’s message.
Adoration: What can I praise God for in light of what this teaches me?
Confession: What sin can I confess because of what this teaches me?
Thanksgiving: What can I thank God for in light of what he has done?
Supplication: What do I need to ask of God in order to grow in light of this?
