“Standing In Awe” / Various Scriptures

Mike Keith / August 17th, 2025

A. Transcendent “God exists above and beyond space and time”

1. The glory of God exists beyond the creation we know (Ps 8:1)

    • Isaiah ponders the unseen God through what we see (Is 40)
    • The angels in awe of God instruct our response (Is 6:3)
    • We the created being have no excuse (Ro 1:20-23)

2. The glory of God exists outside of time that we live in

    • As creatures of time, everything about us is affected by time
    • God’s purposes are certain apart from time (Gn 1 / Ro 8:29 / 2 P 3:8)
    • God enters into time to fulfill His purposes (Ga 4:4 / Rv 13:8)

B. Infinite  “In all that God is, He is without limits” (Ps 145:3)

1. Existence (Ps 90:2)

2. Understanding (Ps 147:5)

3. Power (Ps 115:3)

7. Truth (Titus 1:2 / Hb 6:17,18a)

8. Perfection in His actions (Dt 32:4)

9. Perfection in His methods (Ps 18:30)

C. Immutable “God is and always will be true to Who He is”

1. Mankind exists in a state of becoming, God in a state of being

    • He does not change His mind (I S 15:29)
    • He does not change His purpose (Hb 6:17)
    • His word does not change (Is 40:8)
    • His counsel (plan) does not change (Ps 33:11)
    • God Himself does not change (Mal 3:6 / Ps 102:27)
    • With God there is not the slightest of variation (Ja 1:17)
    • Jesus, God the Son, is eternally the same (Hb 13:8)

2. God is both transcendent to and relational with His creation

    • It is impossible for us to grasp the harmony of His attributes

3. God is always faithful to Who He is

    • His actions are always consistent with His character

D. Eternal “God has always existed, without beginning or end”

1. Many in Scripture speak of God’s eternal existence

Gn 21:33 / Ps 90:2 / I Tim 1:17 / I Pt 5:10 / Rv 1:8

2. God’s purposes are spoken of as eternal

    • Purposes in Christ (Eph 3:11)
    • Christ’s kingdom (2 Pt 1:11 / I Tim 6:16)
    • The gospel (Rv 14:6)
    • Our spirit is everlasting (Ec 3:11 / 12:7)
    • Our future body (2 Co 5:1)
    • Judgment of the wicked (2 Th 1:9)

3. God’s promises are rooted in His eternal purposes
