New Life – STUDY GUIDE
/ Mt Gilead ChurchIcebreaker: Share one practical way in which you have experienced “new life” through Jesus.
Sermon Title: “New Life” – Romans 6
Group Discussion:
Read Luke 15:18-24 – Sandals, a robe, and a ring: Discuss some of the parallels of the father embracing his son in this parable with what happens to us when we surrender our lives to Jesus.
Read 1 John 4:9-10 – Atoning sacrifice: A payment that satisfies a debt. How can understanding Jesus’ sacrifice in this way impact our view of God’s love and our view of Jesus’ mission? Should this influence the way we interact with Jesus; how? Should this influence our interactions with others?
Read Romans 6:1-3 – The separation is finished: We have access to the Father. How should we interpret the truth that we no longer have to be separated? Discuss areas where we might still feel separation and how we can receive His grace to embrace intimacy. Discuss ways we can help others comprehend intimacy with Jesus, such as coming to faith, surrender, repentance, and baptism.
Read John 14:15-18, 14:25-26, & Romans 6:4-5 – He is not finished with us. How can these verses encourage us in that God is still at work in our lives? In what areas of your life do you need to trust that the Holy Spirit is still at work shaping you more into His image? Share examples of how the Holy Spirit has been helping you grow recently, or share where you have seen the Spirit at work in others.
Read Romans 6:6-11 & Matthew 28:18-20 – Discipleship: The mission is not finished. This is new life, in that we are united with Jesus in his death, resurrection, and mission. How does being united with Jesus in baptism not only give us new life but also call us into His ongoing mission? What does it look like in your daily walk to live as someone who is both raised to new life and sent on mission?
