Small Group Questions

What do you think?

What part of last Sunday’s service struck a chord with you?(MULTILINE)

The story of your life.

  1. Pastor Kyle talked about how we don’t need to be Bible scholars but we still need to have a regular intake of the Bible in our lives. Which of the following ways of accessing the Bible have you tried?
  • Reading a daily devotional book.
  • Reading passages picked at random.
  • Reading a one-year Bible plan.
  • Scripture memorization.
  • Small Group study questions.
  • Listening to the Bible.
  • Bible study course (i.e. Beth Moore, RightNow Media).
  • Other _______________________.

2. What was your experience with those you’ve tried? Which one has been the most helpful for you? How has your attitude about the Bible and how you read/study/listen to it changed over the years?(MULTILINE)

Digging deeper in God’s Word.

  1. Living the Bible we already know sounds easy but we all know it can be really hard. There’s a story in 1st Samuel where God anoints, then rejects Saul because of his choices. It’s so sad as a reader to watch a man who was once anointed king and followed God take such a negative turn. Read 1st Samuel 10:1-13, then respond to the following prompts/questions.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    2. What do you think is the overall tone of Samuel’s anointing to be king?(MULTILINE)
  2. Now read 1st Samuel 13:8-14.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    2. How does Saul seem different?(MULTILINE)
  3. Finally, read 1st Samuel 15:1-26.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    2. What insights can we learn from Saul’s story on living out the truth of Scripture that we already know?(MULTILINE)
  4. Thankfully, we do not live in the covenant of the kings where the blessing of the nation depends on a person’s obedience. We live under the New Covenant of Christ. What insights do the following verses provide on obedience as Christians who live under the new covenant?
    1. Romans 6:1-4.(MULTILINE)
    2. Galatians 2:20.(MULTILINE)

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else said during this discussion that struck a chord with you.(MULTILINE)
  2. Pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women if possible). Larger groups may need to break into even smaller groups for the sake of time.(MULTILINE)
