Your Position Is Not Permanent

(Exodus 13:17-18) When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle.

(Exodus 13:17) God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter.

1. Your position is on

What God is doing when there is a delay:

✓ He is protecting us from battles we aren’t prepared for

✓ He is teaching us total reliance on Him

(Exodus 13:21-22) By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

(Psalm 119:105) Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

2. Your position has been for you

(Psalm 37:23) The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.

(Psalm 23:5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies

3. Your position is

(Exodus 14:10-12) As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

(Exodus 14:13-14) 13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

(Exodus 14:15) Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.

(Exodus 14:16-18) Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.”

(Exodus 14:21-22) Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

(1 Corinthians 10:1-2) I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. 2 In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses.
