TESTED
“The Relationship Test”
(James 1:2-4) My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
1.The Test
Unhealthy relationships look like:
- lack of communication breeds mistrust
- dishonesty
- walled off emotionally
- inconsistent follow through
What builds trust in a relationship, BEING HOT:
- Honest
- Open
- Transparent-God won’t heal what you wont reveal
(Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight
2.The Test
(Ephesians 4:2) Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
3.The Test
Boundaries of relationships:
- We don’t use the “divorce” word
- We don’t yell (if it has happened one of us reminds the other
- and we know this is an established boundary)
- We don’t call each other names or use profanity
- We don’t use absolutes
- We apologize(1 Corinthians 13:4-7) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
(Galatians 6:9) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
4.The Test
(Colossians 3:13) Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
(Matthew 6:14-15) For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
