Set and Secure
(1 Corinthians 10:13) No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
(Colossians 3:1-3) Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
1. Set your on things above
(Proverbs 4:23) Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
2. Set your on things above
(Colossians 3:2) Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
(2 Corinthians 10:5) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Heavenly Thoughts vs. Earthly Thoughts
Heavenly Thoughts:
Focused on Christ and eternity (Col. 3:1)
Seeking God’s will and glory
Treasuring eternal rewards (Matt. 6:20)
Humility and serving others (Phil. 2:3-4)
Holiness and purity (1 Pet. 1:16)
Peace and trust in God (Phil. 4:7)
Thankfulness and contentment (1 Thess. 5:18)
Compassion, kindness, patience (Col. 3:12)
Living with eternity in view
Earthly Thoughts:
Focused on self and temporary gain
Seeking personal success, approval, or comfort
Chasing possessions, wealth, or status
Bitterness, anger, and revenge
Pride, selfish ambition, comparison
Lust, impurity, indulgence
Worry, fear, and anxiety
Complaining, envy, and discontent
Anger, rage, malice, slander
Living only for today
(Romans 12:2 NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
(Philippians 4:8) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise
3. Set your in Christ
(Colossians 3:3 NIV) For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
(2 Corinthians 5:17) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
(Colossians 3:5-7) Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
4.
(Ephesians 4:27) do not give the devil a foothold
The word “foothold” (Greek: topos) literally means place, room, or opportunity.
