Jesus Shatters Shame
(Mark 5:24-26) So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.
“Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging” -Brené Brown
Guilt: I made a mistake
Shame: I am a mistake
1. Press “the past”
(Philippians 3:13-14) I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
2. Say something
(Mark 5:27-28) When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”
(Romans 12:2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
3. to Him
God responds to our faith:
Faith is how we access God’s promises
Faith is pleasing to God
Faith is how we receive God’s grace
Faith is how we are saved
Faith moves heaven onto earth
(Malachi 4:2) But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise, With healing in His wings
4. your identity
(Mark 5:32-34) But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter…”
5.
(Mark 5:33) trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.
(Mark 5:34) He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
