Mark 3
INTRODUCTION:
Mark 3:7-9 (NIV)“Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee… When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him… He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him.”
TEXT:
Mark 3:7-19 (NIV) 7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.8 When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.9 Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.10 For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.14 He appointed twelvethat they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach15 and to have authority to drive out demons.16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

The crowd can only think about the . They never think about the .
The thing that was going to be , they wanted more than anything else.
People want the over the .
TWO THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CROWD:
1. Temporal provisions will only gather a crowd .
2. Crowds fall Jesus; demons fall Jesus.
Mark 3:11 (NIV) says, Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before Him…
2.
Mark 3:13-19 (NIV) 13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.14 He appointed twelvethat they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach15 and to have authority to drive out demons.16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Genesis 1:1 (NIV)In the beginning God created [made] the heavens and the earth
Ephesians 2:19-20 (NIV)You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
THREE THINGS ABOUT THE CALL;
1. The call to follow Jesus is .
2. The call to follow Jesus is .
Mark 3:14a (NIV)…that they might be with Him! ”
John 15:5-8 (NIV)5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Your level in the Christian life always is at your level with Christ.

CONCLUSION:
Three important issues:
1: Being Jesus must always precede for Jesus.
2: Followers of Jesus accept they are defined by what they stand and what they stand .
3: Within the church, there will always be more of Jesus than .
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:21-23 (NIV)21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
