The Word of the LORD Came 1Kings 16:1-7
October 15, 2025 / Feather Sound ChurchINTRODUCTION:
· Since King Solomon’s downfall chronicled in 1Kings 11, King Solomon’s heir saw the kingdom torn in two.
· Last time we were in 1Kings we broke down 40 years of history with the focus on Judah and Jerusalem.
· Last week we backed up and time and picked up chronologically with the end of Chapter 14 and focused on two kings.
· Today we will focus on one king, just 7 verses, but with something very profound mentioned two times, “the Word of the LORD came”.
· How does this Old Testament statement relate to us today?
SCENE 1: The of the LORD Came.
1. The single recorded event of King Baasha’s reign was that the word of the LORD came against him.
1) MESSENGER: Prophet Jehu. This is the first time he is mentioned as a prophet. He will be mentioned several times all the way through 2Kings Chapter 9.
2) MESSAGE:
i. His origin (DUST)
But mist would come up from the earth and water all the ground. Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being — Genesis 2:6-7 (CSB)
BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: We came from dust, and we will return to dust.
You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.” — Genesis 3:19 (CSB)
ii. His position (GAVE HIM THE PRIVILEDGE OF LEADERSHIP)
Not many should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we will receive a stricter judgment — James 3:1 (CSB)
iii. His problem (PERSONAL SIN THAT LEADS OTHERS TO SIN)
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to fall away — it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses. For offenses will inevitably come, but woe to that person by whom the offense comes. If your hand or your foot causes you to fall away, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to fall away, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hellfire. — Matthew 18:6-9 (CSB)
iv. His fate (DEATH OF HIS ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD)
v. His grace (HE HAD TIME TO REPENT?)
BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: The grace of God is found in the laws of the harvest. (Galatians 6:6-9)
1. We reap what we .
2. We reap than we sow.
3. We reap .
EMERALD CITY:
1. Is the Word of the LORD still coming today?
o Reporters are often given the framework of reporting a story by answering the following questions: Who? What? When? Where? and Why?
WHO?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. — John 1:1-14 (CSB)
WHAT? [1] (TGC Article Matt Smethurst)
1. The Bible Is Inspired

2. The Bible is True (Psalm 12:6, 19:7, 119:160, Proverbs 30:5-6)
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. — John 17:17 (CSB)
3. The Bible is Authoritative (Eph 6: 1-2, Heb 13:17, 1Peter 5:5, Rom 13:1-7)
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. — James 1:22 (CSB)
4. The Bible is Clear
The revelation of your words brings light and gives understanding to the inexperienced. — Psalm 119:130 (CSB)
5. The Bible is Sufficient
His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. — 2 Peter 1:3 (CSB)
6. The Bible is Powerful
o Melts Hearts (Jer 23:29)
o Changes Lives (John 17:17, Romans 1:16, 1Thess 1:4-5)
For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. — Hebrews 4:12 (CSB)
7. The Bible is Christ-Centered
Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures. — Luke 24:27 (CSB)
8. The Bible is Precious (Jer 15:16, Deut 32, Psalm 119, John 15:11)
WHEN?
Now I say that as long as the heir is a child, he differs in no way from a slave, though he is the owner of everything.
Instead, he is under guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. In the same way we also, when we were children, were in slavery under the elements of the world. When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “’Abba’, Father! ” So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then God has made you an heir. — Galatians 4:1-7 (CSB)
Working together with him, we also appeal to you, “Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.”
For he says: At an acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. See, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation! — 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 (CSB)
As they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, “Look, there’s water. What would keep me from being baptized? ” So he ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. — Acts 8:36-38 (CSB)
WHERE?
o The exact place where Jesus was born.
o The exact place Jesus ascended to heaven.
o The exact place Jesus will return.
o The exact place where He will rule.
BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: We from sin, but flourish where planted.
“Stay right where you are planted until God gives you new marching orders.” Pastor Art Dykstra
From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live. — Acts 17:26 (CSB)
WHY? Gospel of Mark: (Identity, Mission, Call)
1. Who is Jesus
2. Why did He come?
3. What does it mean to follow Him?
And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach there too. This is why I have come.” — Mark 1:38 (CSB)
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him and said, “Teacher, we want you to do whatever we ask you.”
“What do you want me to do for you? ” he asked them.
They answered him, “Allow us to sit at your right and at your left in your glory.”
Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with? ”
“We are able,” they told him.
Jesus said to them,“You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with. But to sit at my right or left is not mine to give; instead, it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”
When the ten disciples heard this, they began to be indignant with James and John. Jesus called them over and said to them,“You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions act as tyrants over them. But it is not so among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you will be a slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:35-45 (CSB)
