“Hope 2.0” (1 Peter 1:1-12)

“” (1 Peter 1:1-12)

Big Idea: Biblical hope transforms trials into opportunities for spiritual growth, resilience, and eternal perspective for God’s people in a broken world.

How do I get through a broken world with my faith intact? How do we have hope?

Lesson 1: V.1 This is not our home. We have a hope of a real home.

  1. Identity: We have a true home with a new eternal identity and inheritance.

Why is hope important?

Lesson 2: V.3-9 Hope reshapes trials

  1. Refines us– it strips away false idols and purifies faith.
  2. Grows our character-Empowers perseverance/resilience

Lesson 3: V.10-12 Hope rests in a promise keeping God- the greatest suffering—the cross—birthed the greatest triumph.

How to cultivate hope:

  1. Redirect: in the pain don’t ask why? Ask what are you doing in this pain?
  2. Remind: our promises of identity and heirs to an imperishable inheritance.
  3. Rejoice: Choose joy in trials knowing that it is working something good (Rom. 8:28).

:

  1. What does it mean to live as an “exile” or “stranger” in our culture? How does that shape your day-to-day choices?
  2. Share a time when a hardship actually strengthened your faith or character. What did God teach you?
  3. How does knowing God’s promises are “imperishable” change the way you view setbacks?
  4. Peter says hope is a “living” reality. In what practical ways can you keep that hope active this week?
  5. Which of the three takeaways—Redirect, Remind, Rejoice—do you most need right now? How will you apply it?

(Summary for Parents to explain what they learned in church):
God has chosen us as His people, living as foreigners in a broken world, but because Jesus keeps His promises, our hope is an eternal reality. This gives us the strength to turn every trial into growth and points us toward our true home in heaven.

Kid-Friendly questions for the car ride home:

  • “If you were an alien visiting Earth, how would remembering you actually belong somewhere else help you feel brave?”
  • “What promise from God makes you most hopeful when you’re sad or scared?”
