Jesus The High Road Leader

“Jesus Placed People Above His Agenda”

Pastor Mark England

What does it mean to be a Christian leader?

It means .

Mark 9:35 (CSB) Sitting down, he called the Twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last and servant of all.”

Jesus with lowly people to show us how to live on the High Road.

Jesus reached out to people others .

Mark 10:13-16 (CSB) People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”16 After taking them in his arms, he laid his hands on them and blessed them.

People may not remember what you , but they will always remember how you made them .

When we , give them hope, and place them above our agenda, we become like .

Continual .

If we open our eyes and see the world the way Jesus did, we’ll recognize that much of the ministry we can do in this life will consist of dressed up as interruptions.

Jesus performed a miracle instead of enjoying a with His friends.

John 2:3-4 (CSB) When the wine ran out, Jesus’s mother told him, “They don’t have any wine.”

4 “What has this concern of yours to do with me,[a]woman?” Jesus asked. “My hour has not yet come.”

Jesus dinner to defend a woman who anointed Him.

Matthew 26:6-10 (CSB) While Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman approached him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw it, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor.” 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a noble thing for me.

Jesus stopped to instead of leaving Jericho.

Matthew 20:29-34 (NLT) As Jesus and the disciples left the town of Jericho, a large crowd followed behind. 30 Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 31 “Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 When Jesus heard them, he stopped and called, “What do you want me to do for you?” 33 “Lord,” they said, “we want to see!” 34 Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! Then they followed him.

Jesus paused His teaching to .

Mark 2:1-5 (CSB) When he entered Capernaum again after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 So many people gathered together that there was no more room, not even in the doorway, and he was speaking the word to them. 3 They came to him bringing a paralytic, carried by four of them. 4 Since they were not able to bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after digging through it, they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Jesus visited the home of a tax collector instead of .

Luke 19:1-10 (CSB) He entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 There was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man. 4 So running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus, since he was about to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down because today it is necessary for me to stay at your house.” 6 So he quickly came down and welcomed him joyfully. 7 All who saw it began to complain, “He’s gone to stay with a sinful man.” 8 But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much.” 9 “Today salvation has come to this house,” Jesus told him, “because he too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”

You cannot and be in a .

When God asks us to stop what we are doing, He is often giving us a chance to be a part of what . In God’s Kingdom, an interruption often becomes an to doing something better.

The essence of putting others first.

Matthew 5:43-48 (CSB) “You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what are you doing out of the ordinary? Don’t even the Gentiles do the same?48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Servanthood will surprise you.

Serving because you see people e shifts you from feeling like you are above them to putting yourself below them to .

If we see others as , we will try to .

If we see others as , we will try to .

If we see others as , we will .

so much about how we treat others that He takes it .

There may be no action we can take that makes us more like than placing people above our . It was what Jesus did.
