Series: On The Verge! A Divine Move!
We must believe God is ready to move!
- Stillness, Stirring, Sound, Divine Moment
Congregational Recital Declaration
“We are on the verge of a divine move of God! We will be still and trust His timing. We will yield to the stirring of His Spirit. We will listen for the sound of His voice. We will welcome His arrival in power. This is our moment, and we will never be the same!”

What is a “Divine Move?”
Thought: A divine move is the Spirit of God supernaturally invading the ordinary and reordering it to change the outcome.
Today: Stirring: The Signs!
Stirring is a holy agitation, a divine disruption, a sign that God is getting ready to move.
- Restlessness in your spirit.
- A hunger that nothing else can satisfy.
- A discomfort that says, “Is there anything more than this?”
- Calls us to attention and action.
Stirring is God’s way of saying: “I’m preparing you for fire.”

1: God Stirs His People
God “stirring” His people appears in Israel’s story
Exodus 35:21 (ESV)
Historical Context
- Israel camped at Mount Sinai, delivered from Egypt.
- Moses received the Ten Commandments and the detailed instructions for building the tabernacle (Exodus 25–31).
- Crisis: Israel sinned with the golden calf (Exodus 32).
- Now: Exodus 35–40 shows the people carrying out God’s command to build the tabernacle — a dwelling place for His presence among them.
Theological Significance
- Stirring Produced Giving: God awakens hearts so His house can be built.
- Stirring Seed Offering of Easter 2024
- Stirring Precedes Presence: before the glory cloud filled the tabernacle there had to be a stirring of hearts to build it.
The Result
Exodus 40:34 (NIV)
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Centuries Later: After the temple destroyed by Babylonians
Haggai 1:14 (NIV)
So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God,

Timeline
- 1 Kings 6–8 (966 BC): Solomon’s Temple, fire falls.
- 586 BC: Temple destroyed, exile.
- 520 BC (Haggai 1:14): God stirs again → rebuilding of second Temple.
- Israel had returned from exile but got distracted building their own houses while God’s temple lay in ruins.
- God’s solution wasn’t just to send fire — it was to stir their spirits.
- Hebrew word ʿûr = awaken, arouse, shake. God shook them out of complacency.
- And when He stirred them, they went to work on His house.
The pattern is consistent — God stirs His people whenever He is preparing to re-center His presence among them.
Sometimes your frustration isn’t the devil — it’s God stirring you because you’ve settled for caring for other things when He wants His presence rebuilt in the center of your life first!

Means
Stirring Is Inward Before Outward
Joel 2:12-13 (NIV)
1. Historical Setting
- Joel prophet to Judah (southern kingdom).
- Devastating locust stripped the land bare
- Joel’s message: not just agricultural; it’s spiritual. God is shaking His people awake.
“return to me with all your heart…”
- God says there is still time
- repentance is still possible.
“Rend your heart and not your garments.”
- Jewish culture, tearing garments = outward sign of grief.
- God demands more than outward displays — He wants inward, authentic change
“Return to the Lord your God..”
- He stirs hearts not to crush, but to restore.
Stirring always begins with an inner change before an outward displays.

Don’t Miss the Stirring Because It Doesn’t Look Like You Expected
Pool of Bethesda
- Jerusalem, sick gathered, believing angel “stirred” the waters for healing.
- First in was healed
- Jesus encounters a man..
John 5:4-8 (ESV)
- Jesus bypassed the last 38 years of tradition
- True stirring comes from the authority of Christ.
Don’t assume a stirring will look like it did the last time. Some of us are staring at old waters, waiting for a ripple, while Jesus is standing right beside us saying, “Get up and walk.”

Pattern of Stirring is throughout Scripture
- Acts 2:2: God stirred the Upper Room with a rushing wind before the fire of Pentecost.
- Acts 4:31: God stirred a prayer meeting until the whole place shook.
- Acts 16:6–10: God stirred Paul’s direction with a closed door and a vision of Macedonia.
- Acts 17:16: God stirred Paul’s spirit in Athens at the sight of rampant idolatry.
- 2 Timothy 1:6: God stirred Timothy to fan into flame the gift within him.

Stirring of the Heart
1. Stirring (God’s Initiative)
- Hebrew word: ʿûr = to awaken, arouse, shake, provoke.
- Example: “The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel…” (Haggai 1:14).
- Meaning: God initiates. It’s a divine impulse — His Spirit awakens the heart, disturbs complacency, creates restlessness, or calls to action.
- Stirring = God moves first.

2. The Signs (Willingness — Human Response)
- Hebrew phrasing: nasaʾ libbô = “lifted heart” → a voluntary inclination.
- Example: “Everyone whose heart stirred him, and everyone whose spirit was willing, brought the LORD’s offering.”
- Meaning: After God stirs, the person must choose to respond.
- obedience, generosity, repentance, or action
- Willingness = We respond.

How They Work Together
- Stirring without willingness → conviction without obedience (you feel it but do nothing).
- Willingness without stirring → effort without anointing (you try, but in your own strength).
- Stirring + Willingness → that’s when divine movements happen.
Stirring is what God does in you; willingness is what you do with it.
Remember:
A divine move is the Spirit of God supernaturally invading the ordinary and reordering it to change the outcome.
“I will not miss my stirring. I commit to move no matter how God moves before me. Lord, awaken me for Your glory
