Thanksgiving Series: Gratitude In Motion
- Our Gratitude creates Motion!
What’s Gratitude?
Gratitude is the Spirit-awakened response to God’s presence that becomes visible through our words, actions, and worship. It is not an emotion but evidence of a movement of the heart that reveals who God is and what He has done in us. When we have true gratitude, it becomes visible in our lifestyle, obedience, worship, and witness.

Today: Overflow of Gratitude!
What is an Overflow of Gratitude?
When gratitude is alive in the heart, it refuses to stay hidden. True gratitude moves beyond emotion—it pours out in every direction. It grows what God has planted, it serves and gives with joy, it lifts others up, and it turns every blessing back into praise. Overflowing gratitude is the unmistakable evidence of the presence of God within every believer!
- Gratitude is rooted in grace: God’s unearned kindness toward us.
- NT the Greek word charis means grace.
- From charis same root comes the word eucharisteo, which means “give thanks.”

Cycle of Gratitude in Motion
1. Grace is given: Unearned Favor
- God always moves first. He blesses, forgives, saves, restores, provides, and strengthens.
- Everything begins with His unearned kindness—charis.
2. Revelation awakens.
- The Holy Spirit opens our eyes to recognize what God has done.
- We don’t just receive grace—we see it.
3. Our Gratitude responds. We’re overwhelmed by it!
- Thankfulness rises from that revelation.
- It’s not forced. It’s not ritual.
- It’s the natural pulse of a heart touched by grace.
4. Our Gratitude starts moves. Your Evidence (last week)
- We’re overwhelmed so it doesn’t stay inside. It becomes action—
- praise, obedience, generosity, compassion, witness.
5. God is glorified.
- Our gratitude points others back to Him.
- People see the evidence of His grace in our lives.
6. Grace flows again.
- God pours out more grace—strength, peace, favor—
- That restarts the cycle… deeper, stronger, fuller than before.
- Process repeats and a Supernatural Overflow of Gratitude is set into Motion!

Gratitude in Motion: Grace moves → Revelation awakens → Gratitude responds → Gratitude moves → God is glorified → Grace flows again.
Grace begins the cycle, gratitude keeps it moving, and God’s glory completes it.”
- It recycles and repeats An Overflow of Gratitude sets Gratitude in Motion!
- When the Apostle Paul speaks of thanksgiving, he is reminding the church that all gratitude begins with the realization:
Believers overflow with gratitude because they live aware of grace. That grace awakens a revelation, which awakens gratitude and that gratitude awakens their motion. Gratitude is the echo of grace in a transformed heart.

Overflowing Gratitude Always Multiplies!
- A grateful heart understands the Kingdom principle: whatever is placed in God’s hands grows.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV) Generosity Encouraged
- Apostle Paul around A.D. 55–56, during his ministry travels.
- Major giving initiative: Financial offering for struggling believers in Jerusalem.
- Corinthian church had originally expressed eagerness to give, but they hadn’t yet followed through.
- Paul writes this section to encourage them—not through guilt, but through grace.

Entire passage built around one truth:
- Giving is not about money. It’s about gratitude rooted in grace.
- Paul uses agricultural imagery—sowing and reaping—to show that generosity isn’t loss, it’s Kingdom multiplication.
- When Paul says God loves a “cheerful giver,” he is pointing back to the Greek idea that thanksgiving (eucharisteo) grows out of grace (charis). In other words:
Gratitude is the soil where generosity grows.
- Verse 8, Paul declares that God will “make all grace abound,” meaning that gratitude and generosity position believers to receive God’s supernatural sufficiency, strength, and provision.
- Why your pastor stresses giving!

Summary: 2 Corinthians 9:6–8 teaches that:
- God begins the cycle with grace.
- We respond with gratitude.
- Gratitude overflows as generosity.
- God multiplies the seed and expands the impact.
Our Gratitude is the fertile soil. What we sow with a thankful heart becomes part of God’s multiplication. Our multiplied Thankfulness increases capacity and faith enlarges, resources stretch, joy deepens.
Overflowing Gratitude Always Serves!

2 Corinthians 9:11 (NIV)
- Sits in Paul’s teaching about the Jerusalem relief offering—a major generosity initiative where Gentile believers were helping Jewish believers suffering from poverty and persecution.
- Paul is explaining that God enriches His people not for personal luxury, but for Kingdom generosity.
“you will be enriched in every way”
God supplies so we can supply. What He puts in us; He wants to pour through us.
“so that you can be generous on every occasion”
Grace fuels gratitude, and gratitude fuels generosity.
- Paul’s teaching giving wasn’t meant to be a one-time emotional moment, but a continual overflow of gratitude!
The result
“Through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
Your gratitude becomes someone else’s praise. It releases evidence of God’s presence in places you may never step foot.
Overflow isn’t about elevation—it’s about service. God fills you so He can pour you out. Gratitude asks, “Who can I bless next?” The grateful life is a serving life. Gratitude recognizes needs as God-given opportunities.

Overflowing Gratitude Always Blesses
2 Corinthians 9:12-13 (NIV)
Paul twofold impact of the Corinthians’ generosity toward the suffering believers in Jerusalem.
1. Their giving meets real needs.
- Paul calls it “this service”—using a word tied to priestly ministry.
- He is elevating generosity to an act of worship.
- Their offering would literally bring relief to struggling believers.
2. Their giving produces thanksgiving to God.
- Paul stresses overflowing generosity always creates gratitude in others. Motion!
- This giving would cause people in Jerusalem who never met the Corinthians—to thank God for them.
This is Paul’s central message
Your gratitude becomes someone else’s praise.
(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
Verse 13 goes even deeper.
- Believers in Jerusalem would glorify God not just because of the money, but because the Corinthians’ generosity proved their faith was real.
Overflowing acts of gratitude is real evidence of the gospel at work! It “overflows forward”—spilling into another community and igniting worship miles away or down the street!
