Divine Shift – Sermon Notes Pastor Brad Myers

Timing Shift September 22, 2024

Series: Divine Shift!

To change, to move from one place to another, to reposition.

This series will be about preparing your ways for greater days!

  • Timing Shift: Your timing vs. God’s timing
  • Think different:
  • Be different:
  • Do different:
  • Live different:

If we’re unwilling to make a divine shift, you’ll never move past where we’re at.

Divine Shifts

  • Abram: On a path in Ur when God stirred him to leave.

Four BIG Divine Shifts in the Bible

  1. Garden to the Grave
  2. Law of God to the Grace of God.
  3. Jesus’ Earthly ministry to the church Earthly ministry
  4. Shift from the church’s Earthly ministry to the church’s Heavenly ministry!

Timing Shift Timing is Everything!

You can do anything! But you can’t do everything at the same time!

Understanding God’s timing is the key to unlocking a divine shift in your life!

  • God had a time for Abram to leave UR & arrive in Canaan
  • God called Abram to leave UR; Terah, Abram’s father, decided to leave. See the difference?
  • Terah’s timing was to stop and settle in Haran…where he died.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV) A Time for Everything

  • We need to understand the timing and seasons God ordains for us.
  • We try to reap during planting season, plant during harvest, run when we should be resting, and rest when it is time to run.

Even doing the right thing at the wrong time will cause you to miss the mark every time.

Discerning the Times

1 Chronicles 12:32 (NLT)

From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take.

  • Understanding God’s timing is the key to taking the proper action.

God wants us to understand and recognize the divine shifts in our lives, moments when God changes the times and seasons.

God’s Divine Shift

The following verses in Isaiah speak of God’s shifting

  • Isaiah 48:6 (ESV)
  • Isaiah 43:19 (ESV)
  • Isaiah 42:9 (NIV)
  1. Word “spring” marks a shift in time. Something new is about to spring forth. “Will you not be aware of it?” He asks. Often, God waits until the last moment to move. But it is also true that when He does move, it can transpire quickly. Never give up. Your shift may be closer than you think.
  2. Word “new” speaks of a shift as well.
    • New-Testament, two Greek words are translated “new,” but different meanings.
    •  Greek word neos means numerically new but not different.
    • Greek word for “new” is kainos, which means numerically new and different.

Make it Simple

  • Neos: New duplication
  • Kainos: New creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

  • Kainos: New creation!
  • Not an upgraded model
  • New quality, new nature, new power!

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Jesus used both here

Matthew 9:17 (NIV)

  • New (neos) wine (God’s Spirit) needs to be put into new (kainos) wineskins (Us).

In order for God to prepare us for a shift He changes us. God is doing new things on earth, both neos (new duplications) and kainos (new creations)

God is giving us more of what we’ve had in the past, but He’s also making some radical changes.

  • Some people won’t be able to receive these changes because their wineskins aren’t kainos.
  • They won’t be ready to move with God in His process of bringing us from the old to the new. The shift is coming, but will we recognize the timing, and will our wineskins be ready?

Have you ever noticed that when God begins to do something new, it is often something that was hidden? He often keeps it a secret right up to the last minute.

Isaiah 48:6 (ESV)

Let’s join the New Season (changes) to Time

The Joining of the Seasons – What Time do you Keep?

  • New Testament Greek words for time, chronos and kairos.
  • Chronos: general chronological time.
  •  Kairos: the right time, the opportune or strategic time, the now time.
  • Often chronos and kairos different phases of the same process.
  • Kairos, in many ways, is an extension or continuation of chronos. As the processes of God’s plans unfold, chronos becomes kairos.
  • Kairos, the right or opportune time, is born out of chronos, the general time.

Our perseverance and faithfulness in chronos general time can give birth to a kairos, right, opportune time event.

God takes us through a process in which our perseverance and faithfulness opens the door for Him to divinely shift us into the next phase for a strategic reason. He changes the time and our season.

Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

Our actions and attitudes in the Chronos times of preparing, sowing, believing and persevering are what determines whether God will divinely shift you into the Kairos times of fresh and strategic opportunities.”

God wants to divinely shift our thinking from becoming discouraged during these times to realizing the necessity of Chronos seasons. We’re not losing or wasting time, we’re investing it.

Remember Abram & Sarah?

  • Abram received a promise from God that he would have a son through Sarah and that his descendants would be in number as the stars in the sky.
  • He then moved into a 24-year chronos season of having to persevere and walk by faith. God appeared to him and said, in essence, that a divine shift was about to happen: “I will surely return to you at this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.”

Genesis 18:10 (NIV)

  • After so many years in the chronos season, Abram and Sarah laughed at this prospect. They even tried to get God to fulfil His plans through Ishmael. But true to His word, God created the divine shift.
  • Abram and Sarah moved from chronos to kairos. The new sprang forth from the old, and Isaac, the son of promise, was born.

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Examples:

  • Moses: After 40 years in the desert called to deliver the Israelites from Eqypt.
  • Israelites delivered: Weren’t faithful to their chronos season so it took 40 more years to get to the kairos divine shift
  • Paul (Saul): Received a divine visitation from God on the road to Damascus.
    • Dramatic kairos time conversion.
    • Shifted into a routine chronos time season of about 11-13 years.

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Then Kairos Time Shows up! (The right, opportune time)

Acts 13:2 (NIV)

  • Perseverance (11-13 years) faithfulness of worshiping and fasting!

Chronos shifted into Kairos, and the world has never been the same since.

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

We talked new seasons

  • Neos: New duplication
  • Kainos: New creation

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

We talked timing shifts in a new season

  • Chronos: general chronological time
  • Kairos: Right, opportune time

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Let’s talk the Fullness of Time (Greek: PLEROO)

  • pleroo: means to fill up, accomplish or complete.

Galatians 4:4 (NLT)

  • After years of chronos time Kairos time arrives but with a pleroo event!
  • Pleroo: God accomplished His plan; He sent His son!!

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Clock resets to chronos with Jesus

  • Disciples went through three intense years with Jesus.
  • Then came kairos time (right opportunity) the Cross, the Resurrection, the Ascension and Pentecost.
  • With Pleroo events: Fullness of Accomplishments

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

They almost missed it!! After Jesus was resurrected

John 21:3 (NLT)

  • Back to our regular, chronos time lives!
  • Almost missed his divine shift!!!
  • Few days later Peter’s preaches and 3,000 are saved….

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Be ready when your time arrives for a Divine Shift.

Pool of Bethesda: Man paralyzed for 36 years.

John 5:6 (NLT)

When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”

  • Jesus asks a question??

(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Answers

John 5:7 (NLT)

  • although he was waiting, he really had no hope of being healed. He was in a kairos moment, close to the pleroo fullness, but hopelessness had set in.

We get so accustomed to working hard and seeing little fruit that when the time for the divine shift comes, we don’t have the faith to move into the new.
