Under New Management: Manage Your Labor
August 31, 2025 / Cornerstone Global Methodist ChurchScripture Reading: Colossians 3:22-25
In the ancient world, people assumed that the wealthy, were they assumed to be blessed or cursed by gods/God? !
But Paul says that even can be equally blessed by God!
Colossians 3
22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no .
As a disciple of Jesus you are under NEW !
Colossians 3:11: — “Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.”
Galatians 3:28 — “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor , nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Colossians 4:1 – “, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.”
Gregory the Great wrote that we should tell people to “learn to order their interior dispositions before the eyes of the hidden Judge.” (Pastoral Care, 3.4).
Remember the END GOAL of human life on earth that we saw at the beginning of the Bible in Genesis and the end of the Bible in Revelation 21 and 22? It’s a peace-filled, compassionate state of life on earth with people living as dearly loved children of God who have willingly CHOSEN to ACCEPT Jesus’ forgiveness and love and adoption into God’s family. ALL tribes and nations and languages will be represented, we’re all judged equally and have the same Savior and Master and ‘hidden Judge’ Jesus.
- WHAT ‘work’ you do depends on your circumstances and wiring.
- HOW you work depends on your faith!
Colossians 3:23-24 — Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Do YOUR work, FOR the Lord and it will fit your internal wiring and your circumstances and will benefit the common good of humanity (as GOD define’s ‘Good’!).
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: Read Colossians 3 in its entirety, thinking about our work / effort.
- What is ‘work’?
- What work in your eyes is noble and good? What work is pathetic, bad, or beneath you?
- What work have you done in the past that you found meaningful?
- What work does God expect you to do, right now – this week? Why?
- What will your work look like if you are doing it for the Lord?
PRAYER: “Lord, I want to please you above all else with my work, so help me to love people and you in such a way that my desires and efforts in work will please you and serve the common good of the people in this world, all by your strength and Spirit. Amen!”
