Scripture Reading: Acts 3:1-10   (will cover chapters 3 and 4)

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Remember God is three in one, , Son, and Holy Spirit. We see this even in Acts 3 and 4!

The Book “Acts of the Apostles” in the New Testament, also considered the Acts of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit within the disciples of Jesus, the author Luke quotes the prophet named who was inspired by God to write:

“I will pour out my on all people….and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be .”

  1. In Acts 3 Peter and John are asked by a crippled for money. Instead, they offer the man healing and salvation by the power of the Holy ! He goes away “walking and leaping and praising !”
  2. In response. The Jewish leaders are furious! They throw Peter and Paul into .
  3. Once out, Peter and John meet together with the other leading disciples of Jesus, and they all celebrate all God was doing now that Jesus had ascended to heaven and send the Holy Spirit.

The working of the Holy Spirit in the Christian community led them to:

  • Unity of heart and
  • Share all of their
  • Powerful testimony to the of the Lord Jesus

They still had legal private ownership – but they radically shared.

They still had disagreements and problems – but had loving compassion for God and each other that helped them work through their issues. They were tasting a bit of heaven on earth, based on the combination of the Spirit’s power and their human testimony!

What had they prayed out loud together!?!?!

  • “God, you are the sovereign Lord…”
  • “Remember we’re facing adversaries…”
  • “…enable your servants to your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the of your holy servant Jesus

Pray that way, and then speak and do what God puts in your heart to speak and do!

Discussion Questions:

  1. Who within the Church have you heard speak about Jesus in a way that was helpful and motivating?
  2. Who outside of the Church have you heard speak about Jesus in a way that was helpful and motivating?
  3. Relating to being a witness of Jesus, OR of any other action, what fear do you have that God could remove to help you speak boldly to people about Jesus?

READ Acts 3 and 4

  1. What might have happened to Peter and John when they were preaching about Jesus in Jerusalem at this time?
  2. Why were they courageous enough to speak up anyway?
  3. What do you notice about the prayer that they prayed with the other disciples before God’s Spirit ‘filled them’ anew?
  4. What would you like to see God do in your life as you pray to God in this sort of way?

PRAYER: “Father God, you are sovereign over all creation and do as you please with the power of the Creator of the universe. Remember us in our struggles, and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
