WHY THE RESURRECTION MATTERS – Part 1
Vernon Zook April 12, 2026
And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. – 1 Corinthians 15:17 (NLT)
THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST GIVES ME…
1. … VICTORY OVER MY .
Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. – 1 Peter 1:3 (CEV)
2. … VICTORY OVER MY .
God did not give us a spirit of fear… – 2 Timothy 1:7a (NIV)
…only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. – Hebrews 2:14-15 (NLT)
3. … VICTORY OVER MY OLD .
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. – Ephesians 2:1-6 (NLT)
So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. – Romans 6:11 (NLT)
4. … VICTORY OVER .
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 (NLT)
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? … No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. – Romans 8:35-37 (NLT)
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. – Colossians 3:1-2 (NLT)
