GOD FIRST – Part 6
Vernon Zook February 8, 2026
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. – Philippians 3:12–14 (NLT)
The one who endures to the end will be saved. – Matthew 24:13(NIV)
A COMPLETELY COMMITTED LIFE FOR JESUS CHRIST REQUIRES…
1. …A CLEAR .
If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. – Luke 9:23 (NLT)
As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. – Joshua 24:15 (NLT)
2. … DAILY .
So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own. – Luke 14:33 (NLT)
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20 (NLT)
3. … THROUGH DIFFICULTY.
Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. – 2 Timothy 3:12 (NLT)
For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. – Philippians 1:29 (NLT)
4. … AN PERSPECTIVE.
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen… – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NLT)
I do not account my life of any value…if only I may finish my course. – Acts 20:24 (ESV)
5. FINISHING STRONG REQUIRES FAITH.
As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me – the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. – 2 Timothy 4:6–8 (NLT)
…Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. – Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
