Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. – Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. – Matthew 5:5 (NLT)
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. – Matthew 23:12 (NIV)
THE MEANING OF HUMILITY & MEEKNESS:
Meekness is Not:
Weak … Timid … Being passive … Push-over … Wimpy!
Meekness Is:
Strength – under control … Power – submitted to God … Kindness and gentleness toward others
1. JESUS WAS A EXAMPLE OF TRUE MEEKNESS.
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart… – Matthew 11:29 (NLT)
• JESUS POSSESSED ALL .
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth… – Matthew 28:18 (NLT)
• YET JESUS CHOSE .
Though he was God…he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave… – Philippians 2:5-8
Jesus showed that true greatness is found in .
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many. – Matthew 20:28 (NLT)
2. MOSES WAS A EXAMPLE OF TRUE MEEKNESS.
Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. – Numbers 12:3 (NIV)
3. The Promise: “They Shall Inherit the Earth.”
But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. – Psalm 37:11 (NLT)
WHAT DOES THIS PROMISE MEAN?
• The Promise of Present Blessings:
God’s Promises … God’s provision … God’s Peace … God’s Power
• The Promise of Future Blessings:
Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection…they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. – Revelation 20:6 (NLT)
WHAT DOES A MEEK PERSON LOOK LIKE?
1. A HUMBLE PERSON FOR EVERYTHING.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
2. A HUMBLE PERSON IS .
He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. – Psalm 25:9 (NLT)
3. A HUMBLE PERSON BEFORE YOURSELF.
…Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. – Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT)
4. A HUMBLE PERSON THE GLORY.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. – James 4:10 (NLT)
