A. John 12:12-13 (NET) ¹²The next day the great crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. ¹³So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord—the King of Israel!”

B. John 12:16a (NET) His disciples did not understand these things when they first happened.

III. The King That Came

A. John 12:14-15 (CSB) ¹⁴Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written: ¹⁵“Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

B. Isaiah 53:2b (NIV) He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

C. Matthew 26:47b-48 (NLT) ^47bJudas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a crowd of men armed with swords and clubs. They had been sent by the leading priests and elders of the people. ⁴⁸The traitor, Judas, had given them a prearranged signal: “You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss.”

D. 2 Corinthians 5:19 (NET) In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people’s trespasses against them, and he has given us the message of reconciliation.

Philippians 2:6-8 (NLT) ⁶Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. ⁷Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, ⁸he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

IV. The King We Receive

A. John 11:32 (NLT) “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

B. John 11:37 (NLT) “This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?”

C. John 11:4b (NLT) “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.”

D. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT) ⁸“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. ⁹For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

E. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) ⁵Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. ⁶Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

V. Conclusion
