I Love you, You're my Family!

Sacred Season 2026: Provider

January 11, 2026   /   Dr. Allen Griffin   /   Winston Salem First Assembly

Sacred Season is underway!

Sacred Season is a specific time for our church family to put first things first. We acknowledge God as our priority by fasting those things that are not sacred to demonstrate our desire for the Lord!

This 21-day WS First church fasting, and prayer season is special.

It’s not too late to begin your sacred season!

Please consider what/how you would like to fast until January 25, 2025:

  1. Daniel Fast: eliminating meat and sweets/alcohol from your diet.
  2. Liquid Fast: soups and shakes only.
  3. Media Fast: eliminating social media/entertainment.
  4. Sunup to Sundown: eating only predawn and after dusk.
  5. Modified Fast: a personal sacrifice that releases your time for prayer.
  6. One Meal: Give up one meal per day for prayer and scripture study.
  7. Surrendering whatever I adore for the One!

We will pray (Monday through Saturday) from 12 noon to 1 pm in the auditorium. All are welcome! We will have worship and prayer each Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 pm

2026 is our year of MORE!

In 2026: Our Theme is “More than Enough!” and our proclamation is “More!”

Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. (pronounced: MOREEYAA) Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”

The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”

So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them walked on together, Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the sheep for the burnt offering?” “God will provide a sheep for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham answered. And they both walked on together.

  1. God tested Abraham: A test is to improve you, a temptation is to destroy you!

  1. God asked while acknowledging Abraham’s love for Isaac…God knows!!!

  1. Abraham did not delay…early in the morning they set out!

  1. Three days journey…no easy thing…nothing great is easy!

  1. Abraham had faith in God…the God who was MORE!

When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. At that moment, the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”

“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”

Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live.

Abraham proceeded with God’s plan: altar, wood, and bound sacrifice.

The Angel of the Lord called him and stopped him!

  1. Abraham knew El Shaddai, and because he trusted God’s might, he met God’s provision!

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. Hebrews 11:8-10 (NLT)

It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead. Hebrews 11:17-19 (NLT)

Abraham believed in El Shaddai! His faith opened the door to know God as Yahweh Yireh!

What are you carrying that you need to give to the Lord?
