I. Introduction

A. Revelation 21:1-7 (NLT)

1. What matters most is what kind of you’re a part of!

B. Revelation 21:9 (NLT) Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

Revelation 21:10-12 (NLT) ¹⁰So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. ¹¹It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone—like jasper as clear as crystal. ¹²The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates.

1. He’s using the image of the city to describe —to describe the kind of persons we will be—and the community we will create in heaven.

II. The Kind of Person You Will Be in Heaven

A. You will be thoroughly .

1. Revelation 21:4 (NLT) “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

2. Romans 8:18 (NLT) Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

3. The biblical hope is that you can with any suffering you go through!

B. You will be unbelievably .

1. Revelation 22:5 (NLT) “And they will reign forever and ever.”

2. “Reigning” means that God is going to that which we were made for in the first place!

3. Your gifts, and abilities, and talents will finally be fully !

4. Matthew 25:21 (NAS) “‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’”

C. You will be morally .

1. John 3:19b (NLT) God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.

2. The day is coming when there will be no more !

3. Revelation 21:23 (NLT) And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.

4. Revelation 22:5a (NLT) And there will be no night there.

5. God says, “I’m making everything new—and that includes !”

6. You will be fully ! And God will delight in you!

7. will be carried in the heart of God!

8. God’s great treasure in heaven will not be rocks or minerals. It’s His community—it’s His bride—it’s His people! It’s !

D. You will be completely .

1. Revelation 22:1-2 (NLT) ¹Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. ²It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

2. The best part of heaven is that will be there!

3. Revelation 21:22; 22:3-4 (NLT) ²²I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. ³No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. ⁴And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads.

4. Think of what it will be like to “explore” !

5. Not human beings are going to end up in that city.

6. “The things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us, this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all live happily ever after. But for them, it was only the beginning of the real story.
