The Humble King
December 14, 2025 / Oasis Community ChurchJesus didn’t enter a picture-perfect world.
He stepped into the real one that was messy, crowded, confusing, uncomfortable.
And in doing so, He showed us three life-changing truths:
God uses small places.
God sees overlooked people.
God comes to where you are.

THE REALITY OF “WHEN LIFE DOESN’T MATCH THE PICTURE”
Click to add your own note
Luke 2:1-20
We all carry an internal picture of how life should look yet so often, what shows up feels nothing like what we expected.
Jesus steps into that place.
-
What “picture” did you have for your life that looks different right now?
-
How do you normally respond when expectations break?
-
Where does the Christmas story give you hope in the gap between expectation and reality?
SMALL PLACES MATTER
Scripture to Read: Micah 5:2
Bethlehem was tiny, overlooked, and insignificant to people—
but strategic to God.
Just like the job you don’t love, the season you’re questioning, the place you think is too small, the part of your story that doesn’t look holy
God is doing His best work in the places you think are beneath you.
-
What “Bethlehem season” are you in right now?

How might God be forming you in a place you don’t prefer?
-
Where do you sense God asking you to trust Him more deeply?
GOD SEES OVERLOOKED PEOPLE
Scripture to Read: Luke 2:8–14
The shepherds were undervalued, considered unclean, and invisible to culture.
Yet Heaven chose them first. God moves toward the people the world overlooks.
They RAN to Jesus even though running was undignified because when you realize Heaven has seen you,
you start moving like someone with nothing left to prove.
-
Where have you felt unseen or overlooked this year?
-
What would change in your life if you truly believed Heaven sees you?
-
How does God’s choice of shepherds encourage you?
GOD ENTERS REAL LIVES
Scripture to Read: Philippians 2:5–11
Jesus could have chosen:
-
A palace, A royal family, comfort, visibility
Instead, He chose:
-
A manger, obscurity, poverty, real humanity
He didn’t wait for perfection. He stepped into reality, your reality.
Reflection
-
What part of your life feels messy or unpolished right now?
-
What would it look like to invite Jesus into that exact place?
He comes to where you are and not where you wish you were.
Personal Application
1. Embrace the place you’re in.
Small places matter. Bethlehem teaches us nothing is wasted in God’s hands.
Ask:
“God, what are You forming in me here?”
2. Start living like someone seen by Heaven.
You matter to God. The shepherds showed us that Heaven sees the overlooked.
Let God’s voice outweigh people’s opinions.
3. Invite Jesus into something real.
He comes to where you are. Jesus enters real lives, real struggles, real disappointment. These are truths you can build your Christmas on. Not the polished part of your life but the honest and real part.
He comes to where you are.
