Small Group Questions

What do you think?

Have someone quickly read over the main “fill-ins” from Sunday’s message to jog your memory. From the message, what particular point challenged you, stood out to you, or raised a question for you?(MULTILINE)

The story of your life.

  1. On Sunday, Pastor Kyle shared about how to position ourselves for a life of possibility with God. One of the first things to note about that is to focus on God’s power and His presence within us more than our problems and fears in life. Since we’re entering “spooky season,” if anyone feels comfortable, share one of your biggest fears. How have you been able to work through it, work around it, or perhaps even overcome it?(MULTILINE)
  2. Another thing we talked about on Sunday was the power of setting up physical reminders/memorials in our lives of the Gospel, of God’s grace, and His goodness to us personally. What are some physical reminders you have that help you remember these things and focus more on God’s faithfulness to you?(MULTILINE)

Digging deeper in God’s Word.

  1. Another story where God’s people had to choose to focus on His presence and power is found in Judges 6-7. In this story, the people of Israel have not been walking with God. As a result, the nation is being overpowered by seemingly unsurmountable enemies. Break up Judges 6-7 to be read by multiple readers and then respond to the following prompts/questions.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    2. What specific steps did Gideon have to take to turn the tides for the Israelites?(MULTILINE)
    3. What does this passage tell us about God? Experiencing breakthrough? People & ourselves?(MULTILINE)
  2. Matthew 14:22-33 is a great New Testament example of the disciples having to focus on Christ rather than fears mounting around them. Read it out loud together and respond to the following prompts/questions.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the story using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    2. What does this passage tell us about God? Experiencing breakthrough? People & ourselves?(MULTILINE)
  3. What insights do the following passages offer on positioning ourselves for breakthrough in life?
    1. Isaiah 41:10.(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
    2. 2 Chronicles 20:15-17.(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
    3. John 15:5-7.(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
    4. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
    5. Hebrews 12:1-2.(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing that someone else mentioned in this discussion that struck a chord with you.(MULTILINE)
  2. Break up into smaller groups and pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women).(MULTILINE)
