1 Peter 2:11 – 3:7 Preaching

To review and proclaim

9 But you are a chosen race,[i][j] a royal priesthood,[k] a holy nation,[l] a people for his possession,[m] so that you may proclaim the praises[n][o] of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Today’s verses

  1. 1 Peter 2:11-25 V 11 – Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and exiles to abstain from sinful desires that wage war against the soul – it also wages war against our relationship with JC.
    1. Matt 5:48 – Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. – The Greek defines perfect as mature or complete
    2. 2 Tim 2:21 – 21 So if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable,[g] he will be a special[h] instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
    3. Daniel 6:4b – 5 – But they could find no charge or corruption, for he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him. 5 Then these men said, “We will never find any charge against this Daniel unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God.”
    4. Sin starts in our minds
      1. 2 Cor 10:3-5 – 3 For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, 4 since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments 5 and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
      2. Cleansed of shame and free of the guilt of our sin. Romans 8:1  Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus,[a] 2 because the law[b] of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you[c] free from the law[d] of sin and death.
  2. V13 – submit to every human authority to honor Jesus Christ…
  3. V 18 – submitting to our master (Jesus Christ), our bosses or whoever else has control of us, to bring glory to JC
    1. V 23b – JC entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.
      1. There is tremendous power in submitting to Jesus Christ. If your heart is to submit, He will give you the grace to do so.
  4. My credentials for teaching this next section
    1. Out of our 43 years of marriage, I have done far more to damage Debra and our marriage that I have done right.
    2. I have figured out that I need to pray more, love her, build her love bank, and free Debra to be who God had made her to be.
  5. 1 Peter 3:1 – Wives, submit yourselves to your own husband so that they may be won over without a word by the way their wives live
  6. V2 when they observe your pure reverent lives.
    1. It is easy to say that we are reverent to Jesus, prove that by the way you treat and revere your spouse – this is both ways.
  7. V4 –but rather what is in the heart – the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight
  8. Men, you need to love, become a student of your wife, becoming an excellent communicator, and being a humble leader in your home.
  9. V7 Husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
    1. What, my prayers can be hindered by how I am treating my spouse?
    2. Matt 5:23 – 24 – 23 So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your wife or husband has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your wife or husband, and then come and offer your gift.
  10. When you don’t understand what the scriptures are saying, find other scriptures to shed light. Interpret scripture with other scriptures.
  11. Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[f] her with the washing of water by the word. 27 He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.
    1. I want Debra to be my greatest fan here on earth even though she knows me best.
  12. Ephesians 5:28 – In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
  13. V29 – 29 For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church,
    1. Do you value your wife higher than your own life?
  14. V33 – To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.
    1. To the degree that you love your wife, men, she will be secure.
    2. A secure wife is a loved wife and a loved wife is a secure wife. If you will do that, it will reap tremendous benefits for us men.
  15. Heb 12:1 – Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,
    1. To JC, my wife, my family, both physical and church, and for a dying world.

My prayer

Help us to so clean before you, JC

Help us to have nothing negative between you and us.

Help us as wives to revere and honor your husbands.

Help us as men to be all out in pursuit of JC and our wives.
