We Are A Family!

Today we’re launching a brand-new series through the book of Ephesians called “We Are a Family!”

The Need for a Strong Family

Paul’s words in Ephesians give us hope. While earthly families may fracture, God invites us into a family that never ends.

Ephesians 2:19-22

19 So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

We Are Members of God’s Family (Ephesians 2:19)

Paul writes in verse 19: “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.”

The good news is this: When you put your faith in Jesus, you are adopted into God’s Forever Family.

And Paul says we are God’s masterpiece.

We will be Grounded in God’s Foundation (Ephesians 2:20)

Paul continues: “Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets.”

Scripture is our plumb-line that tells us whether our spiritual walls are straight or leaning.

Our Fixation will remain on Jesus, our Cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20b–22)

Our Focused Fixation will always be on Jesus, the Cornerstone of Family Church. Paul finishes this section by saying: “And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.”

If Jesus is truly our cornerstone, then Family Church won’t be known primarily for our programs or buildings—it will be known for how we love our neighbors and invite them into God’s family.
