Uncertainty Vs Faithfulness
August 24, 2025 / Hope Chapel WestsideUNCERTAINTY VS FAITHFULNESS
- How many of you have plans for tomorrow?
- How many of you have plans for next week?
- How many of you have plans for next month?
- How many of you have plans for next year?
- (MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
- Don’t include God in our plans, and
- Remember that God has a plan for our life that may have to do with the plans we make!
Life is fragile
Everywhere we turn we are reminded of the uncertainty of this life we live.
(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
- the Lahaina fires, bombings in Israel and Gaza, mass shootings worldwide, etc)
- Life, this universal human experience, is fraught with —plans disrupted, futures unknown.
The Reality of Uncertainty
(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
James 4:13-15 talks about this… life is a fleeting vapor
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.”
14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to,(or Lord willing) we will live and do this or that.”
- James 4:13–15: Life is fleeting, like a vapor.

BUT GOD’S WORD TELLS US…
- Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - James 4:14
“You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” - (MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

Trusting God’s Plan
- Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Many have distorted this Scripture to mean “things, money”. Prosperity in God’s eyes are things He doesn’t give to the world – peace, joy, rest, and hope. Even health is not guaranteed. - The Apostle Paul said, “…there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”
— 2 Corinthians 12:7–9
- (MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
Regardless of its nature, Paul emphasizes its spiritual significance:
- It was to prevent pride.
- It became a showing that divine strength is most evident in human weakness.
- Paul ultimately , saying:
- “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
(MULTILINE REVEAL SMALL)
- Proverbs 16:9
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” - Psalm 37:5
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”
