Icebreaker: Share one word to describe the Lord as a lamb and one to describe Him as a lion.

Sermon Title: Mold Me – “Fire in My Bones” – Jeremiah 20

Group Discussion:

Read Jeremiah 20:7-8, Jeremiah 20:10, & Jeremiah 14-18 – Raw honesty before God about me. Is it wrong to question God’s purposes or timing? How can Jeremiah’s example challenge us in our own seasons of doubt? Discuss ways we can practice transparency and honesty in our own prayer lives.

Read Jeremiah 20:9, Jeremiah 15:16, & Romans 10:17 – Uncontainable fire of God’s truth in me. What can the imagery of a “fire shut up in my bones” reveal about the potential power of God’s word in our lives? Discuss how this can inspire us to pursue discipleship and confidently share His truth.

Read Jeremiah 20:11-12 & 1 John 4:4 – The dread/mighty warrior presence of God with me. What can we learn from these verses about God’s warrior-like presence, especially when we are oppressed and weary? Discuss how this assertive image of the Lord can be an encouragement in our faith walk.

Read Jeremiah 20:13 & Habakkuk 3:17-19 – An unceasing song to God from me. Why is it important for followers of Jesus to engage in an unceasing song? Share examples of how choosing to sing or verbally praise the Lord, even through difficulties, can strengthen our faith and our witness to others.

Read Jeremiah 20:12b – How can adopting Jeremiah’s statement, “for to you I have committed my cause,” reflect the choice to trust what we know about God over what we feel (e.g., This is what I feel, but this is what I know, so this is what I will do). Share a time when you acted on trust and faith instead of your conflicting emotions. How can such devotion strengthen our relationship with Jesus?

Action Steps: (1) Practice Honest Prayer: Set aside time this week to talk with the Lord candidly about your true feelings; be authentic, (2) Commit Your Cause to Jesus: Identify one personal burden or challenge and intentionally entrust it to the Lord in prayer by declaring: “This is what I feel, but this is what I know, so this is what I will do,” and (3) Praise Through the Tension: Choose a worship song to sing or verse to recite when experiencing emotions that conflict with what you know is God’s truth.
