A Faithful Father
(Psalm 68:6) God places the lonely in families
(Genesis 6:8-9) But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.
1. A faithful father
(Genesis 6:11-12) Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.
(2 Corinthians 5:21) God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(Galatians 5:16) So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
2. A faithful father
✓ Build up by being present
Shows up emotionally, physically, spiritually
(James 1:19) My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry
✓ Build up by calling out potential
(Romans 4:17) “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.
✓ Build up by speaking promises
(2 Corinthians 1:20) For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
3. A faithful father speaks
(Proverbs 18:21) The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
(Ephesians 4:29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
THINK before I speak
T- is it TRUE?
H-is it Helpful?
I-is it Inspiring?
N-is it Necessary?
K-is it Kind?
(Matthew 3:17) And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
3 words we see in this verse:
✓ Words of acceptance – “This is my son”
✓ Words of affection– “whom I love”
(Psalm 64:3) They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
✓ Words of affirmation– “with him I am well pleased”
(Proverbs 15:4) Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.
How do we break off word curses?
- You need to invite some spiritual fathers into your life
- You need to get into biblical community
- You need to hear the words of your Heavenly Father
