“How to Develop a Hard Heart”
Mark 8:14-21
Dull in understanding, slow to believe, and lazy in obedience … all characteristics of the disciples.
Mind you, these Twelve were with Jesus, learning by His side. If that’s the case with them, we ought
all to be on guard that we don’t develop a hard heart. Jesus warns them against the little “leavens”
that corrupt the heart, and we would do well to listen in on His warnings too!
Consider these eight ways to develop a hard heart … and run from them!
1. Forget to bring Jesus with you wherever you go [8:14](MULTILINE)
2. Reject warnings and get defensive or argumentative [8:15](MULTILINE)
3. Allow little corruptions to settle into the recesses of your heart [8:15](MULTILINE)
4. Blame others instead of taking responsibility [8:16](MULTILINE)
5. Fight against being vulnerable and exposed [8:17](MULTILINE)
6. Do your best to forget what you’ve learned [8:18](MULTILINE)
7. Focus on facts over faith [8:19-20](MULTILINE)
8. Avoid responding to appeals to maturity and obedience [8:21](MULTILINE)
