CHOOSING TRUTH

WHEN THE TRUTH SETS YOU FREE – Part 4

Vernon Zook March 16, 2025

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.   -John 8:32 (NCV)

I. Enemies of the Truth:

● Words From Our Past
● The Influences of the World
● Our Own Feelings

II. Where Do We Find Truth?

1. We find truth in .

The devil who rules this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. They cannot see the light of the Good News—the Good News about the glory of Christ, who is exactly like God. -2 Corinthians 4:4 (NCV)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.  -Romans 12:2 (NLT)

● Capture
● Compare

We do live in the world, but we do not fight in the same way the world fights. We fight with weapons that are different from those the world uses. Our weapons have power from God that can destroy the enemy’s [strongholds]. We destroy people’s arguments and every proud thing that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ. -2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NCV)

2. We find truth in .

“Your word is the truth. So let this truth make them completely yours.”  -John 17:17 (CEV)

God’s word is alive and working and is sharper than a double-edged sword. It cuts all the way into us, where the soul and the spirit are joined, to the center of our joints and bones. And it judges the thoughts and feelings in our hearts.  -Hebrews 4:12 (NCV)

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who in his love and mercy called you to share the eternal life he gives through Christ. You are already following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who twist and change the truth concerning Christ…You were getting along so well. Who has interfered with you to hold you back from following the truth? It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. But it takes only one wrong person among you to infect all the others—a little yeast spreads quickly through the whole batch of dough! I am trusting the Lord to bring you back to believing as I do about these things. God will judge that person, whoever it is, who has been troubling and confusing you. -Galatians 1:6-7; 5:7-10 (NLT)

3. We find truth in .

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” -John 14:6 (NLT)

And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we are in God because we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.  -1 John 5:20 (NLT)

● Concede

Give yourselves completely to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  -James 4:7 (NCV)
