TESTED

“The Wilderness Test”

(James 1:2-4) My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Good: success, happiness, peace, blessings

Bad: issues, failures, hurts, problems

(Matthew 4:1) Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

1.  Our in the wilderness will determine how long we stay there

(Deuteronomy 8:2) Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

(Proverbs 4:23) Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

2. Our in the wilderness will determine how long we stay there

(Exodus 14:12) complaining to Moses: Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

Exodus 16:1-3 They complained about being hungry

Exodus 17:1-3 They complained about being thirsty

Numbers 11- they complained about the food they had

Numbers 12- they complained about the leadership

Numbers 14- they complained that there were giants in the promised land

Numbers 21- They complained against God himself

(Ephesians 4:22-23) throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

(1 Thessalonians 5:18) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

3. When we are in the wilderness we have to take hold of the miracles all around us

(Numbers 11:5-6) “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”

4. In the wilderness: you while you wait

(Exodus 7:16) Then say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness.

(James 1:2-4) My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
