“Rejection Realities”
Mark 6:1-13
Jesus has power over creation, demons, disease and death, but still faces the rejection of those closest to him. Headed home to Nazareth, he is not welcomed with a hero’s parade, rather his lineage is questioned, his authority and wisdom dismissed, and unbelief runs as high as any time up to this point in ministry. He knows what rejection feels like, and the disciples soon will too.
Six rejection realities to anchor us in Gospel witness:
- People can be both astonished and offended at the same time [6:1-3] (MULTILINE)
- Familiarity can limit appreciation [6:4](MULTILINE)
- Hard-heartedness is not on you [6:5-6] (MULTILINE)
- Simplicity is essential and can be easily misunderstood [6:7-9] (MULTILINE)
- There will always be fickle receptions [6:10-11] (MULTILINE)
- The message and ministry limits self-promotion [6:12-13] (MULTILINE)
