SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

What do you think?

Have a member of the group quickly recap Sunday’s message and read through the fill-ins. What particular point stood out to you, challenged you, or raised a question for you?(MULTILINE)

The story of your life.

  1. This past Sunday, we explored more of God’s attributes. Pastor Obie shared that the more we learn about God’s admirable attributes, the more we fall in love with Him. In your own personal social circle, share an admirable attribute of someone you know and respect? If you’re married, consider an admirable attribute of your spouse that you’d like to share. If you’re single, share an admirable attribute of a parent, friend, or mentor.(MULTILINE)
  2. Pastor Obie talked about God being our “righteous redeemer.” Dictionary.com defines a redeemer as one who “makes up for, makes amends for, offsets some kind of shortcoming, clears by payment, or saves from sin.” We know that only Jesus can do this in an eternal sense. However there are lots of situations where people protect or save someone else from a bad outcome. Have you ever had someone save you from a bad outcome? Share the story if so.(MULTILINE)

Digging deeper in God’s Word.

  1. One of the most poignant Old Testament stories of redemption is that of Hosea and Gomer. The prophet Hosea was called to marry a woman who would repeatedly be unfaithful to him as a picture of God’s love for us. Read the following verses and then respond to the prompts and questions.
    1. Hosea 1:2-3.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    2. Hosea 2:5-8, 14-16, 19-20.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    3. Hosea 3:1-3.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    4. Have a few members of the group unpack the main tenets of the story of Hosea and Gomer using their own words.(MULTILINE)
    5. What does this tell us about God? What does it tell us about redemption? People? Ourselves?(MULTILINE)
  2. The story of  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is a story of three friends who choose to do the right thing and remain righteous in the face of extreme pressure to compromise. Read Daniel 3:1-30 and respond to the prompts and questions below.
    1. Have a few members recap the main tenets of the passage.(MULTILINE)
    2. What pressures do we face today that challenge us to compromise our faith or values?(MULTILINE)
    3. What does this passage tell us about God? People? You?(MULTILINE)
  3. What insights do the following verses offer into Jesus being our righteous redeemer? Read the verses and discuss them one at a time.
    1. Psalm 19:14, 78:35.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    2. Job 19:25.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    3. Isaiah 54:4-8.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    4. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    5. Galatians 4:4-7.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    6. Hebrews 9:12.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)
    7. Revelation 5:9-10.(MULTILINE REVEAL TINY)

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing that someone else mentioned in this discussion that struck a chord with you.(MULTILINE)
  2. Pray for one another (preferably men with men and women with women).(MULTILINE)
