Cultural Triage: Abortion

Theme: our cultural missteps originate in rejecting the Creator or the created order.

13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16 (ESV)

Truths from Science and Scripture:

  • It is a scientific fact that life begins at conception.
  • Every human being, whether born or unborn, possesses equal dignity.
  • An unborn human is not a “potential” human but a full human at a lesser stage of development.
  • Scripture prohibits the unlawful taking of innocent life, which necessarily includes abortion.
  • Christians are called to defend the unborn against cultural forces that would destroy them.
  • Unfortunate or difficult circumstances do not justify taking the life of an unborn child.
  • Jesus offers the same forgiveness for abortion that He does for any other sin.

A child, even an unplanned one, is not a problem to be sorted out but a gift to be cherished!
