WELCOME HOME – A Study in Ephesians

The Family Testimony

(Ephesians 2:1-3 NLT) Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

(Ephesians 2:3) All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature.

1. This is a testimony of

(Ephesians 2:4) But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much.

(Genesis 50:20) You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

(Romans 5:8) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

(Ephesians 2:5-7) 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

This is my new identity

● I have been raised up from the dead

● I am seated with Christ

● I am united with Christ

2. This is a testimony of

(Ephesians 2:8) God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

(Ephesians 2:9) Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

(Galatians 3:13 NIV) Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us

The law condemns but Grace sets us free.

A man with leprosy comes up to Jesus and says “Lord if you are willing you can make me clean”

●  The law says, “Don’t go near him, he is unclean”

●  Grace says, “I am willing”, touches the man with leprosy and the leprosy disappears.

A woman is caught in the act of adultery

● The law says, “You should be stoned to death.”

● Grace says, “I don’t condemn you, go and sin no more.”

The woman with the issue of blood

● The law says, “You need to be isolated and alone.”

● Grace says, “Daughter, your faith has healed you, go in peace.”

3. Our Testimony is for

(Ephesians 2:10 NIV) For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We aren’t saved by our good works. We are saved to do good works
