Jesus Over Religion

(Matthew 21:12-13 NIV) Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

1. Religion creates barriers but

(Hebrews 4:16 NIV) So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

(1 John 2:1 NIV) I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ, the righteous one.

(Hebrews 6:19 NIV) This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.

1. He is your strength

2. He will never leave you or forsake you

3. He has plans to prosper you

4. He hears your prayers

5. He will fight for you

6. He will give you peace

7. He will give you wisdom

8. He will forgive your sins

9. He will fill you with the Holy Spirit

10. Nothing can separate you from His love

11. He has adopted you into the family of God

12.He is a good Father who gives good gifts to his children

2. Religion rejects the broken but

(Matthew 21:14 NIV) The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.

(Matthew 11:28 NIV) Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

3. religion brings indignation

(Matthew 21:15 NIV) But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant.

(Psalm 16:11 KJV) Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

4. Religion says it’s not enough,

(Luke 21:1-4 NLT) While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. 2 Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins. 3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. 4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”
