Stop Walking Backward

November 5, 2023   /   Samuel Szuchs   /   Antioch Outpost

41Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. 42All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. 43A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— 47all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:41-47 NLT

Unity is a big thing in God’s Kingdom

42All the believers devoted themselves…

43A deep sense of awe came over them all…

44And all the believers met together…

46They worshiped together…

I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. – John 17:20-23 NLT

A. Pride cannot cohabit with unity

Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. – Proverbs 11:2 NLT

All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. – Proverbs 8:13 NLT

B. Double-minded has to be replaced

But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel… – Acts 2:14-16 ESV

“No one can serve two masters. – Matthew 6:24 NLT

We have to STOP being Sunday Morning Christians!

“Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” – Luke 22:42 ESV

A. REPENTANCE brings REVIVAL

Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” – Acts 2:37-40 NLT

B. PRAYER is a necessity to constantly moving forward!

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. – Acts 2:46-47 NLT
