Wk 03: Raising Kids God’s Way
(Proverbs 24:3 ICB) It takes wisdom to have a good family, and it takes understanding to make it strong.
Styles of Parenting
√ Authoritarian parenting—the focus is on behavior modification, with success defined by having children that are “well-behaved.”
√ Permissive parenting—the focus is on letting kids be true to their own nature, to “find their own way.”
√ Positive Parenting—the focus is on kids gaining self-confidence and feeling good about themselves.
√ Biblical Parenting—the focus is on values being written upon your child’s heart that will prepare them to live their fullest life of faith and purpose.
The Goal of Parenting
The goal of biblical parenting is to raise children who when they are old enough to choose their own life direction will love and trust God, discover and fulfill their life purpose, and live their fullest lives.
√ More than your parent’s advice to you, what they taught you, or how they disciplined you, it was your parent’s behavior that determined whether you want to be like them, believe like them, or even be around them now that you are grown.
Even Jesus Had To Grow Up
(Luke 2:52) And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
1. Wisdom
Value— for God in every aspect of life
(Proverbs 9:10) “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

2. Stature
Value—Our bodies as , not our own
(1 Corinthians 6:19–20) Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Value—
(John 4:34) “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Value—Good
(Proverbs 13:20) He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
3. Favor with man
Value— over self
(Philippians 2:3) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
